Japan Market Daily – Sep 30, 2026

Wednesday, September 30, 2026

On September 30, the Nikkei 225 rebounded sharply for the first time in three sessions, closing up 1,272.45 yen (+1.94%) at 66,753.72. The TOPIX also rose 67.52 points (+1.67%) to 4,108.65. Concerns over the Middle East eased as crude oil prices fell after half of a major Saudi Arabian pipeline was restored, and buying concentrated in AI- and semiconductor-related stocks. By contribution, SoftBank Group lifted the index by about 318 yen, Fast Retailing by about 173 yen, and Tokyo Electron by about 156 yen, while Murata Manufacturing dragged it down by about 19 yen. By sector, all industries rose, led by nonferrous metals, banks, and metal products. Turnover on the TSE Prime Market was 9.1212 trillion yen. In Tokyo forex trading, the dollar fell at one point from 157.45 yen to 156.37 yen, and wariness about coordinated Japan-U.S. intervention kept it from holding in the 157-yen range.
