Japan Market Daily – Sep 29, 2026
Tuesday, September 29, 2026
On September 29, the Nikkei 225 fell for a second straight session, closing down 396.35 yen (-0.60%) at 65,481.27. The TOPIX dropped 70.87 points (-1.72%) to 4,041.13. On top of losses on Wall Street, higher crude oil prices amid stalled talks over reopening the Strait of Hormuz and rising U.S. long-term interest rates weighed on the market, and selling linked to the ex-dividend date for interim dividends of companies with March fiscal year-ends added pressure, keeping stocks weak throughout the day. By contribution, SoftBank Group dragged the index down by about 168 yen, and Nexon plunged 14.42%. On the other hand, Tokyo Electron added about 121 yen, Fast Retailing about 69 yen, and Advantest about 43 yen. By sector, electrical appliances was the only gainer, while petroleum and coal products, securities and commodity futures, and iron and steel were among the decliners. Turnover on the TSE Prime Market was 7.3224 trillion yen. In Tokyo forex trading, the dollar moved between 157.20 and 157.58 yen.
