Background: On September 1 the company announced a definitive agreement to merge with Starman Optical, an optical-photonics manufacturer. Shareholders will receive $285 million in cash, or $1.14 per share, and retain about 10% of the combined company. GoPro's $92 million of debt will be repaid in full, and the deal is targeted to close by the end of 2026. Starman makes US-manufactured optical transceivers, and the combination is aimed at the AI data center and defense markets. The stock traded around $1.70 on September 3 after an overnight high of $1.83, up roughly 184% from below $0.60 a week earlier and 116% over the past five sessions. The disclosure of an 8.5% stake by YouTuber Markiplier and short interest of about 16% have also fueled a squeeze. Second-quarter revenue, however, fell 31.3% year-over-year to $104.9 million with a net loss of about $51 million.
