The Nikkei 225 extended its winning streak to a fifth session on September 25, closing up 850.21 yen (+1.30%) at 66,364.20. The TOPIX also rose sharply, up 53.29 points (+1.31%) to 4,128.59, as gains widened on the back of semiconductor-related stocks. By contribution, Tokyo Electron was the top contributor, adding about 261 yen, followed by Advantest at about 227 yen, Ibiden about 63 yen, Fast Retailing about 56 yen, and Recruit Holdings about 34 yen. SoftBank Group was the biggest drag, cutting about 162 yen, with Fanuc and Shimizu Corporation also slightly lower. Advancing issues numbered 171 against 51 decliners. In Tokyo forex trading, the dollar traded at 158.05 yen, down 0.80 yen from the previous day as the yen strengthened.
