The Nikkei 225 rose on September 24, closing up 495.04 yen (+0.76%) at 65,513.99. The TOPIX, by contrast, fell 15.84 points to 4,075.30, highlighting a divide between gains in large-cap semiconductor names and weakness elsewhere in the market. By contribution, Advantest added about 243 yen and Ibiden about 191 yen, with the two stocks together contributing about 434 yen. Tokyo Electron, TDK, SoftBank Group and Fanuc also supported the index. Recruit Holdings was the biggest drag, cutting about 135 yen, while Taiyo Yuden, Itochu and Mitsubishi Corporation also declined. In Tokyo forex trading, the dollar traded at 158.39 yen, up 0.07 yen from the previous day.
