The Bank of Japan announced it would keep monetary policy unchanged, but the decision was as expected and had limited impact. Advantest, Tokyo Electron and SoftBank Group weighed on the index, while Ibiden and Fujitsu fell by their daily limits. Gains stalled in the morning session due to weakness in Korean stocks and in electrical equipment and machinery shares, but buying in semiconductor-related stocks widened the rise in the afternoon. On the other hand, Fanuc and Hitachi fell, and decliners made up about 50% of stocks on the TSE Prime Market.
