Japan Market Daily – Nov 6, 2026
Friday, November 6, 2026
On November 6, the Nikkei 225 fell for a fifth straight session on the Tokyo stock market, closing at 57,434.77, down 3,643.13 yen (5.96%) from the previous day, the third-largest point drop on record. TOPIX also fell 232.40 points to 3,707.99. AI and semiconductor-related stocks were sold heavily in the U.S. market the previous day, and caution over tighter regulation of AI and data centers following the Democratic Party's sweeping win in the U.S. midterm elections also weighed on the market. The Nikkei 225's loss exceeded 4,300 yen at one point, and it fell below 57,000 intraday for the first time in about seven months. SoftBank Group, Advantest, Fast Retailing and Tokyo Electron dragged the index down, and 222 of the 225 Nikkei constituents declined. All sectors fell, and Japan Tobacco hit its daily limit low after its Russian subsidiaries were placed under temporary administration. On the other hand, Jinushi surged after announcing an upward revision and a dividend increase. Trading value on the TSE Prime Market was about 12.48 trillion yen.
