The Nikkei reported that market participants described electric wire and cable shares as having been oversold. In the morning session the 25-day moving average provided support and bargain hunting lifted the stock to 3,890 yen shortly before 11 a.m., while Fujikura <5803> was also bought up to 5,318 yen as major cable makers rose broadly. On August 5 the company announced it would invest roughly 100 billion yen in total to double its optical fiber and optical fiber cable production capacity across four countries including Japan and the United States. On August 24 its trading volume was 23.54 million shares and turnover was 86.6 billion yen. The Nikkei Stock Average rebounded for the first time in three sessions, up 328.34 points at 65,856.43.
