On July 13, 2026, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 fell 1,315.00 points (-1.92%) to close at 67,242.73, while the TOPIX dropped 28.59 points to 4,007.49. The decline followed renewed Middle East tensions (President Trump's announcement of resuming a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz) and a sharp drop in South Korean stocks, which weighed on semiconductor shares. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group's market capitalization hit a record high on rising share price. The yen traded around 162 per dollar. In the US, the Dow fell 138.37 points to 52,498.64 and the Nasdaq dropped 408.43 points to 25,873.18. Oil prices (WTI) rose on supply concerns, while gold prices fell.
